Message from Doug Wilson, Owner:  The Carter Farm began in 1862 when Eagleton Carter, a soldier in the Conferate Army was stationed on the current farm site.  His unit was tasked with guarding the Hiwassee River crossing and the Columbus Mill site. During this time he purchased some acreage with the intent of settling here after the war if he survived.  He did indeed survive and returned with his new bride in 1867.  They had one son, Jordan Carter who, along with his own son's Dewey, Tom and Fate, increased the size and operation of the farm to include a store, blacksmith shop, lumber mill and adding several hundred acres for crop use.  During the Great Depression years, the Carter family sold several hundred acres in order to keep the farm running and therefore reducing the size to its current 600 acres.  This River Tract is the first to be sold since that time.  Rich with history, it offers a view of the site of the once large Cherokee Indian Village that was located on the opposite side of the river during the early 1800's, has seen occupation by both Confederate and Union forces during the Civil War, and enjoys roadways that were originally surveyed by the late President Andrew Jackson.  In addition, one can still see the small groves of trees in the field that were the original site of share cropping cabins so popular before the 1940's; a reminiscent of a simpler time.

Simulcast Online Bidding at Live Auction: Online bidders must pre-register at www.pottsbrothers.com. During the live auction, online bidders can participate and must bid at a pre-determined bid increments. Online bid increments are similar amounts as are being asked at the live auction, but not as flexible to change as at the live event. The online bid assistant at the live auction will only be able to accept pre-determined bid increments from online bidders. We will also have pre-determined combinations of tracts for online bidders plus being offered as a whole. We welcome online bidding but due to online bidding platforms, there is not a tremendous amount of flexibility during the actual live auction when multiple parcels are being offered. Please remember, the bids in the first and opening round of bidding were buyers choose their tract or tracts are being bid per acre. The acre bid is then multiplied by the acres in the tract for the contract price. Once the combinations begin, the bid amount is in regular dollar amounts. Please call before the auction for more clarification if needed.
